This bunker/turnout gear, as it's called, helps keep us safe from heat and flames. Our breathing apparatus ensures that we have fresh air to breathe while in smokey environments. Flash lights help us see in the dark and through smoke. We wear different gloves depending on the work we are doing (fire vs rescue).

All of this equipment is essential to keeping us safe so that we can protect people, property and the environment. And the reality is: it's not cheap. It is also not one size fits all. Every firefighter needs to be fitted to ensure the gear fits him or her correctly.
