| Flashovers occur when all the combustible materials in a space ignite simultaneously. Key indicators include intense heat (over 1000 degrees fahrenheit), flames rolling across the ceiling, and thick black smoke. When a flashover occurs, firefighters in full protective clothing only have 3-5 seconds to escape from the area or protect themselves using water to aggressively cool the area. Otherwise, the area becomes unsurvivable.
During the training firefighters were placed in a controlled environment where instructors used the doors on a conex box to regulate oxygen (thus the intensity of the fire) to produce flashovers to demonstrate the warning signs.
Our firefighters consistently train for various situations and scenarios. This allows us to provide top notch service to the residents of our coverage area and beyond. While this training was free, most of our training costs money to attend which includes instructors, supplies, and equipment. Training our firefighters is only possible through your support.
